Charmaine, right at her Little Rock office

The Face That Launched Me A 1,000 miles.

Chip Saltsman’s office is next door on right. Saturday nite Huckabee came in three points down in South Carolina. So close — a mere field goal. But still a loss.

Charmaine’s leave of absence had come to an end. This meant one thing to Your Business Blogger’s household:

Road Trip.

We started packing up the Penta-Posse after Huckabee’s Saturday evening concession speech and set the alarm for 0:darn-thirty, military time and left Virginia for Little Rock on Sunday morning. We arrived at Charmaine’s office some 16 hours later late last night.

Nobody got hurt. (This trip anyway.) (We’ve got the best kids on the planet.)

We knew that the campaign would fly Charmaine home, but we thought we could drive home and visit kin along the way. A little delayed Christmas and New Year’s — Charmaine worked through both this year. We would also be implementing a lesson from World War II and Vietnam:

To Decompress.

After WWII the returning troops returned via slow ship transport with their buddies and slowly adjusted from combat to the idea of civilian life and regular sleep, regular food. And adjust to the idea that nobody was gunning for you.

Much like a presidential campaign…

Vietnam vets had no such decompression. They went from battlefield to seat 3B to USA tarmac in 24 hours. No wonder a few had such difficulty with re-entry. There was no time to cry.

We wanted to drive some 2,000 miles to learn from the wars. And learn from the war.

While I was a-driving cross country with the Hucka-Truck full of MacDonald’s wrappers, Charmaine was eating steak with Ed Rollins, Chairman; Jim Pinkerton, Senior Adviser and David Polyansky the Chief Operating Officer. They were saying goodbye.

Ed picked up the check. He’s a class act.

###

Thank you (foot)notes:

Ed bought the steaks instead of watching some football game. Where the NY Giants beat the Packers 23 to 20 in overtime. Ed has his office in New York. He gave up watching the playoff game to huddle-adieu. Ed knows how to coach a team…

Mike Huckabee is preparing for the next debate on Thursday in Florida. We will continue to cheer him on in any way possible.

We look forward to rejoining our Cherrydale Baptist bible study!

Please email me back to let me know who you support for President! The good news is that unlike past years, your vote matters no matter where you live – the monopoly South Carolina, Iowa and New Hampshire have had has been broken.

Several people told me how irate they were this week at footage of the South Carolina leader saying that South Carolina chooses Presidents for the rest of the Country. The good news is he was wrong – Mitt Romney is now leading the NATIONAL race with more National Delegates (who like Electors in the General Election, choose the Nominee) than all 6 other candidates COMBINED.

Romney’s win in Nevada today is an important victory not just for his campaign – but for the 47 states that have been told they don’t matter. Consider that despite not winning Iowa, New Hampshire OR South Carolina – Romney pulled even further ahead today by winning a bigger Delegate state by a wider margin (Nevada) than the media’s state (South Carolina), leaving the totals after tonight at roughly:

    Romney 88 Delegates (52%)

    Huckabee 32 or 36 Delegates (19% or 21%) McCain 28 or 32 Delegates (17% or 19%) Thompson 8 Delegates (5%) Paul 6 Delegates (4%) Guilliani 1 Delegate (1%) Hunter 1 Delegate (1%) – dropped out this afternoon

McCain could catch Huckabee if he does win South Carolina today, but the two fell even further behind Romney today regardless due to Romney’s 52% to 12% (McCain) to 8% (Huckabee). The other candidates are following the press around looking for good news stories, while Mitt Romney is going to the states with Delegates and winning the nomination.

Romney’s 50-state strategy is important for two reasons:

    1. It means YOU can have a say in the Presidential race no matter the state in which you live.

    2. For Republicans, it means that if Romney does win, we have a Nominee who can win states like Michigan and it’s 17 electoral votes – which means Romney is the one candidate who could defeat Hillary Clinton even if she were to win New Mexico and Ohio, the Democrats top 2 targets to take this time.

    3. For everyone, it means we can have a President who has truly won a national campaign and can address issues in every region of the US.

Mitt Romney is the one candidate you know is campaigning to win YOUR state too, so please email back to let me know if you are supporting him.

Thanks for keeping us up to date, Jack. I do admire the Yoest blog.

I’m confident that the “women warrior” issue hasn’t much purchase among campaign issues, but gather that at least Huckabee, perhaps others, are opposed.

On the other hand, reliable friends have assured me that John McCain has answered their public questions in the past affirming the incorporation of women under arms. — For at least that reason he’s not my favorite.

Odd, that even some former POWs should be mixed on that matter.)

But, the Church remains our principle target, where we still find confusion.

Yours is an epic campaign. I trust that Christians are praying earnestly, “…Thy will be done.”

    Press on.

    Please greet Charmaine !
