AUL Battles for the Pro-Life Work Against the Government Take-Over of Health Care

Charmaine recently sent this letter on the challenges of the government take-over of healthcare,

Dear Friend of Life,

NARAL Pro-Choice America claims to have 41 solidly pro-choice Senators and 185 pro-choice Congressmen. These pro-abortion politicians and the pro-abortion special interests are working around the clock to tear down pro-life safeguards that have been in place for decades.

These pro-abortion efforts have intensified recently with the government takeover of health care and we expect them to ramp up even more in the weeks and months to come. You have been invaluable to the pro-life effort – including your help in getting the Stupak-Pitts Amendment passed in the House but we need your help now more than ever. We have lost key votes in the Senate and need to act now to prevent more.

Pro-abortion activists are intensifying their efforts – will you help us ramp up our efforts with your tax-deductible contribution of $50, $100, $250 or more to Americans United for Life? We urgently need your help now in 2009 to continue our work in the coming weeks and plan for our much-needed larger efforts in the coming months.

Americans United for Life (AUL) is our nation’s first national pro-life group, but we don’t have anywhere near the $1 billion annual budget that Planned Parenthood does. We simply have the support of pro-life families and individuals like you. We know you have been bombarded with fund raising appeals as the New Year approaches – including appeals from us – but this battle to roll back decades of existing pro-life law cannot go unchallenged. We must get our pro-life message out to as many people as possible.

We urgently need the support of you and friends of life around the nation to stand with us and support our life saving efforts before the end of 2009. Our immediate challenge is the very real prospect of taxpayer-funded abortion. For decades, the “Hyde Amendment” has served as a cornerstone of pro-life policy in preventing the government from subsidizing abortion. The number of babies saved by the Hyde Amendment numbers in the hundreds-of-thousands or even millions. And it is under relentless attack by the pro-abortion lobby.

How much does Planned Parenthood – the world’s largest abortion provider (with an annual budget in excess of $1 billion) – stand to profit from this tragedy? Planned Parenthood, and its national network of abortion clinics, generated $85 million in profit last year! How many more lives will be lost with taxpayer dollars being used to fund abortion-on-demand?

As Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi, and their pro-abortion allies race towards government-run health care, we move perilously close to a new world in which taxpayers will foot the bill for abortion-on-demand. This is unacceptable. The taking of innocent life is not health care. And you should never be forced to pay for abortions! This tragedy of increased abortions funded by taxpayer dollars will happen without the intensified efforts of Americans United for Life and pro-life families across our nation standing in opposition.

Will you help us ramp up our year end efforts with your urgent, tax-deductible contribution of $50, $100, $250 or more to Americans United for Life?

Sincerely,

P.S. Founded in 1971, AUL is the first national pro-life organization in America. As we enter our fourth decade of pro-life work, we’ll continue to make sure your tax dollars are never used to pay for abortions. I’m counting on your urgent year-end, tax-deductible contribution of $50, $100, $250 or more so AUL can continue our efforts!
