Cheating
Women play by the rules.
Men cheat.
Charmaine and Hannah
The Sloan Foundation awarded a $220,000 grant to conduct a study on the ways that men and women behave under a particular set of guidelines.
Academia was shocked.
Normal people were not.
Charmaine was Project Director of the inquiry. Were the discoveries really that shocking?

The study demonstrated that professional women play by the rules, are adept at multi-tasking, value relationships and avoid risk. The research uncovered significant contrasts from their male counterparts. The results were observable, measurable, repeatable differences in the data.
I ponder this with my favorite woman and I ask her about it. She is a talented manager. Charmaine says, “I could have predicted that without a study, without regression analysis.”
But she is concerned about the results and the appearances.
Her dissertation was entitled Empowering Shakespeare’s Sister: Parental Leave and the Level Playing Field. She studied how men and women in academia used the Family Medical Leave Act with newborns.
She would eventually master senior leadership and mentor young women in management.
She found that when women take advantage of the Federal Family Medical Leave Act, a woman would take care of her newborn and change diapers.
But the men would really “take advantage” of the FMLA and take the time off. The men would ignore the newborn babe, ignore the spirit of the law and write a book to secure tenure.

I try to help. “It’s not really cheating,” I said. “It’s marketing and the management of scarce talent, limited resource.”
Charmaine’s not buying it.
I say, “Men are simply gaming the system to get every advantage to get the financial security of tenure…”
Even I don’t believe that. Men cheat.
Women and men are different. Wired different. Manage differently.
