Women in Red: Political Dress — Nancy Pelosi and Barbara Milkulski
Alert Reader Pat Patterson comments that Speaker Pelosi, with all her faults, avoided the Red Dress cliche of women-in-power:
At least, pardon my sexism, the inauguration of Rep. Pelosi didn’t have the photo-op of a group of dumpy women trying to stride manfully into the House. All wearing various versions of the red power suit.

Don’t worry Pat, it won’t be long. . .

But when Republican women, or conservative women wear red it’s because they are either Nebraska or Oklahoma fans or (according to deep thinking Democrats) trying to remind the world how bloodthirsty they are. You know, killing unwed pregnant mothers, forcing babies to eat either lead paint or Frankenfood and not providing for unisex bathrooms.
OK, so I gave Speaker Pelosi more credit then she deserved. In her “…notification not consultation”, sound bite tonight (1/10) not only did she have the red power suit but a scarf that looked like a flag lef over from French May Day celebration. Charmaine on this item was more cynical then I was.
Did you not realize that yesterday was National Wear Red Day? I thought that it was neat that power suited women everywhere now had a special day just for celebrating speaking truth to power or even better being the power that truth speaks too. Or something like that. No such luck, it’s a day for making women have heart attacks. No, sorry it’s a day for being aware of women’t heart attacks.
