Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find;

knock and the door will be opened to you.

Matthew 7:7

Nothing Moves Unless It Is Pushed (With A Request)

The former choirboy looked deep into her eyes and asked for a special favor, “Will you vote for me?”

Rachel melted. She said yes (a lot of women did).

It was at a small party in Little Rock, Arkansas long before the boy from Hope came on the national scene. What made this ‘ask’ unusual was the target of his — let’s not call it affection — voter out-reach.

Rachel was a social and economic conservative not easily swayed.

This is influence as exercised by a male with perceived power. Bill Clinton is tall. Suit and tie. Invaded her personal space. Local VIP. The future president could not command nor demand the woman’s vote. But she gave it to him (a lot of women did).

But the effect, dare we say his charm of the good ‘ol boy moved her in a different direction and she came around (a lot of women did).

Your Business Professor was once working with training young sales teams and took them — along a female trainee — to help me purchase a TV monitor for the office.  We walk up and look at a Sony TV with the price prominently displayed in a star-burst.

I ask the salesman, “How much?” The young women looked at price on the giant yellow placard and then looked at me amazed — not sure if I am a dolt or blind. The salesman looks at the make and model of the Sony and says, “Let me check,” as he hurries off to ask his boss.

The woman then looks at the retreating TV sales guy and wonders what alternate universe these two males are in. Negotiator Dr. Chester L. Karrass reminds us that, “…that “firm prices” are less firm than they appear to be. Many will crack if tested. (Karrass 1996) p. 135”

I asked Rachael why she said ‘yes’ to Bill Clinton.

“I couldn’t resist him…” she said. Indeed. He seduced an entire country.

The two-term president spent a lot of time in churches. He learned and practiced a lot of Biblical wisdom and perseverance as explained in Matthew 7:7, Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.

It is not known how often the president asked for the support of his Creator, but he did have the support of the country.
